if you see her say hello

if you see the girl you used to be tell her I say hello
she smiled one day I forget and slipped away between the letters and the words and the mountains and the curls

there in her breath, on dance floors and in bathroom mirrors, in memories on cold blue mornings and in the spaces between the dreams
she passes by

I steal her away on train rides and places I don’t know where she bites her lip before I say
before she falls deeper
before she starts her car with a shiver and turns away
into the grey fog of anywhere
but right here right now

if you see her
say hello
